The Original Props
In the world of Battlestar Galactica, the Colonial Blaster became an instantly recognizable weapon of the Colonial Warriors. Interestingly, there was never just one “definitive” prop. Several versions were created, each with its own quirks.
The first master pattern was a kit-bashed creation, hand-built from parts scavenged from model kits available at the time. Hero props featured a working light-up barrel powered by a bulky external battery pack, with wires cleverly hidden down the actor’s sleeve—an innovative solution for the 1970s.
Because television technology of the era didn’t demand perfection, the originals were far from flawless. They often showed bubbles, distortions, asymmetry, and soft details, giving them a rough, hand-crafted charm.
The Replica
Factory Entertainment’s team meticulously studied surviving props, production images, and behind-the-scenes materials to produce the most faithful and refined Colonial Blaster ever offered.
While the eccentricities of the originals are part of their history, this replica intentionally smooths out those unintended flaws. A brand-new 3D model was built from scratch, restoring missing details, correcting asymmetry, and ensuring every line is sharp and precise.
To bring the blaster into the modern collector’s world, integrated light and sound effects were added—fully self-contained within the prop, no external wires or battery packs required.
